KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two Frontier Conference teams were ranked inside the Top 10, while the other two teams were ranked in the Netting Professional NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, the national office announced the sixth edition of the national football poll Monday afternoon.  In addition, the Frontier Conference has a seventh different team to be listed in the national poll (listed in the receiving votes section).

Montana Tech, who was idle last Saturday, rose two spots from No. 6 to No. 4 in the current national poll.  The Orediggers moved in a tie for No. 4 ranking with Friends (Kan.), both with an overall record of 7-0 and collected 387 points.

MT’s 7-0 start was the first time in program history and sits atop of the NAIA Football Performance Index.  Montana Tech (2-0 record in the Frontier East Division) returns home Saturday versus Mayville State (N.D.) at 1 p.m. (Mountain Time) in the Frontier East Conference action.

Carroll (Mont.) continues their upwards movement in the NAIA national poll for the fifth straight week, rising three spots from No. 12 to No. 9 after collecting 308 points.  The Fighting Saints earned their fifth straight win after shutting down Simpson (Calif.) 44-0 in the Frontier West Division, remaining undefeated in divisional play with 3-0 record before going to a bye week this week.

College of Idaho won the battle of the NAIA’s Top 25 teams, defeating Montana Western 28-21 last Saturday in Caldwell, Idaho.  The Yotes climbed four spots from No. 20 to No. 16, raising their overall record to 5-1 and 2-0 record in the Frontier West Division.  COI travels to Eastern Oregon Saturday evening.

The Bulldogs dropped five spots from No. 15 to No. 20, despite the setback to College of Idaho.  Montana Western is 4-3 overall record (1-2 Frontier West Division record) with 157 points.  UMW stays on the road Saturday as they visit Simpson in the FC West Division contest.

Poll Methodology
  • The national poll is for publicity purposes only and does not influence the selection process for national championship consideration.
  • A panel of head coaches representing each conference and the Continental Athletic Conference (Independents) votes in the poll.
  • The Top 25 teams are selected using a points-based system:
    • 30 points for a 1st-place vote, 29 for 2nd, 28 for 3rd, and so on.
  • The highest and lowest rankings received by each team are discarded before final tallying.
  • Teams receiving only one point are not listed as “receiving votes.”
  • For the Preseason Poll, there is no "previous ranking" column since it is the initial poll and differs from the prior rating system.
