March 31, 2026

HELENA, Mont. – Carroll (Mont.) and Bismarck State (N.D.) were the recipients to the second edition of the 2026 Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week awards, announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week: Reuben Hornby, Carroll (Mont.)

Hornby, a senior from Kalispell, Mont., was selected as the Field Athlete-of-the-Week.

The 2025 All-American picked up right where Hornby left off, setting the Carroll (Mont.) javelin school record throw of 67.55 meters (221 feet, 7 inches) at the Al Manuel Invitational.

His javelin mark is the NAIA ‘A’ automatic qualifying mark and currently leads both the Frontier Conference and the NAIA.  He finished third in the event behind a pair of NCAA Division I javelin throwers from Montana (top NAIA place finisher in the javelin).

It was Hornby’s first career Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field weekly honor.

Men's Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week: Nathan Mathern, Bismarck State (N.D.)

Mathern, a junior from Bismarck, N.D., was chosen as the Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Mathern ran the fastest 400-meters of his career in the Yellowjacket/Battlin’ Bears Open for Bismarck State (N.D.).  He finished first and broke his own school record with an altitude-adjusted 46.43 seconds, which is the NAIA ‘A’ automatic qualifying time.  He currently ranks second in the NAIA.

Mathern was also a member of the 4 x 400-meter relay team that finished first in the event with a time of 3:14.93.  The relay narrowly missed the NAIA ‘B’ provisional qualifying time by three-tenths after the altitude-adjustment brought their time to 3:15.37, ranking sixth in the NAIA currently.

It was Mathern’s first career Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field weekly honor.
