KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Seven Frontier teams remained on the list in the first regular-season NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 poll, the national office announced Wednesday morning. Four teams were listed inside the Top 25 poll, while three other teams were listed in the receiving votes (RV) section.
Two Frontier teams were listed in the NAIA’s Top 10.
Bellevue (Neb.) led the Frontier with the No. 3 ranking with 475 points, despite their season opener 3-2 setback to current No. 10 ranked College of Idaho. The Bruins (4-1 overall record) also received first place vote, which highlighted earning a 3-0 sweep over the defending national champion Indiana Wesleyan in the rematch of last year’s championship match.
Providence (Mont.) rose five spots from No. 10 to No. 5 after tallying 417 points. The Argos’ only loss thus far is the current No. 1 Eastern Oregon. UP (7-1 overall record) is undefeated on neutral sites this season.
Montana Tech fell four spots from No. 17 to No. 21 with an overall record of 4-2. The Orediggers recorded 135 points to the national poll. MT went 2-1 record in each of their two preseason tournaments.
Dakota State (S.D.) cracked into the NAIA’s Top 25 national poll after finishing their first preseason tournament with an undefeated 4-0 record, their best start for many years in volleyball program history. The Trojans were listed in the receiving votes (RV) section in the preseason poll and collected 80 points for a tie at No. 24 ranking with Aquinas (Mich.).
Carroll (Mont.), Montana Western, and Valley City State (N.D.) each were listed in the receiving votes section. The Fighting Saints (5-3 overall record) registered 70 points. UMW (2-5 overall record) fell out of the NAIA’s Top 25 after their No. 11 preseason ranking and received 33 points. The Vikings (2-3 overall record) also tallied five points to the national poll.
The Frontier Conference officially kicks off their 22-match league schedule tonight with three matches between traveling teams – Rocky Mountain (Mont.) at (RV) Carroll, Mayville State (N.D.) at (RV) Valley City State, and Bismarck State (N.D.) at Dickinson State (N.D.).
