HELENA, Mont. - Montana Tech (Mont.) swept the Attacker and Setter awards, while Montana State-Northern claimed the Defender honor in the fifth installment of the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Women’s Volleyball Players-of-the-Week.
Attacker of the Week
Madison Biery, Montana Tech
Middle Hitter I Junior I Boise, Idaho
Biery powered (RV) Montana Tech to a perfect 3-0 week in Frontier Conference play as the Orediggers extended their winning streak to 10 matches. She totaled 31 kills in 11 sets, averaging 2.82 kills per set, while committing only five errors on 51 attacks for an outstanding .510 hitting percentage.
Biery opened the week with 10 kills while hitting .467 in a four-set victory over Montana Western. She followed with 11 kills and five total blocks in a four-set win over Bismarck State (N.D.) before closing the week with 10 kills on 13 swings without an error, hitting .769 in a sweep of Dickinson State (N.D.).
She also totaled seven blocks during the three victories. Biery currently leads the NAIA with a .485 season hitting percentage.
This is Biery’s second career Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Player-of-the-Week honor.
Setter of the Week
Rhys Layton, Montana Tech
Setter I Senior I Eagle, Idaho
Layton fueled (RV) Montana Tech's offense to three Frontier Conference victories, racking up 121 assists in 11 sets for an average of 11.00 assists per set. She also collected 31 digs, seven kills and five total blocks.
Layton began the week with a double-double of 40 assists and 10 digs in a four-set victory over Montana Western. She produced another double-double Friday against Bismarck State (N.D.), finishing with 39 assists and a team-high 18 digs as the Orediggers won in four sets. She capped the week by dishing out 42 assists in Saturday's sweep of Dickinson State (N.D.).
Layton has five double-doubles this season and has reached 40 assists three times.
This is Layton’s eighth career Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Player-of-the-Week honor.
Defender of the Week
Kambria Maloy, MSU-Northern
Libero I Junior I Florence, Ariz.
Maloy anchored the MS-Northern defense with 77 digs over 12 sets, averaging an impressive 6.42 digs per set after going 2-1 home record in Frontier Conference action.
She opened the week with 29 digs against No. 7 ranked Providence (Mont.), a performance in which she surpassed 1,000 career digs. Maloy added 13 digs in a three-set victory over Valley City State (N.D.) before turning in her best performance of the week with 35 digs in a five-set win over Mayville State (N.D.).
Maloy averaged at least 6.5 digs per set in two matches during the week and contributed seven assists and seven service aces.
This is Maloy’s first career Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Player-of-the-Week honor.
