CC’s Hornby earns runner-up in men’s javelin at NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Day 1

MARION, Ind.  – Carroll (Mont.) scored eight points after the first day of the 2025 U.S. Marines NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship Wednesday.  The athletes faced chilly weather conditions with high winds and rain showers during the day.

The three-day national meet is being hosted by Indiana Wesleyan at Wildcat Stadium for the third consecutive year.

The Fighting Saints are tied for fifth in the men’s team standings with host team IWU and Marian (Ind.) after the first day.

Reuben Hornby hit his personal record mark of 61.43 meters (201 feet, 6 inches) to claim the runner-up honor in the javelin for the Saints.  Colter Ball of Montana Tech posted a mark of 52.51 meters (172 feet, 3 inches) and placed 20th.

Cade VanVleet threw 54.56 meters (179 feet) to finish 16th in the hammer throw for the Orediggers.

Carson Krack is third after the first day of decathlon for Carroll, scoring 3.701 points.  His teammate Tucker Monaco is ninth in the standings with 3,367 points.  The action continues Thursday morning, starting with the 110-meter hurdles followed by discus, pole vault, javelin, and the 1500-meter run.

Wyatt Ehredt, Oliver Morris, Peter Rehberger, and Jack Jensen placed 26th in the 4 x 800-meter relay for the Saints.  They posted a time of 7 minutes, 58.92 seconds in the race.

CC’s Brycen Garnder registered a time of 9 minutes, 25.20 seconds in the 3000-meter steeplechase.  He finished 11th in the semifinals and advanced to the national final on Saturday at 1:20 p.m. (Eastern Time)/11:20 a.m. (Mountain Time).

Zach Gacnik wrapped up the first day in the 10,000-meter run, placing ninth with a time of 30 minutes, 43.28 seconds for Carroll.

The second day of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships continue Thursday morning at 10 a.m. (ET)/8 a.m. (MT).
