Battlin’ Bears make biggest jump in NAIA Men’s Basketball Top 25; Orediggers and Lights receive votes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rocky Mountain (Mont.) made the biggest jump in the latest edition of the NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, the sixth installment of the national poll was announced Wednesday morning by the national office.
Two Frontier teams are listed in the receiving votes (RV) section of the national poll.

Rocky Mountain had ballooned their winning streak to 11 games, overtaking the Frontier Conference lead with 16-2 record before returning home this weekend.  The Battlin’ Bears are 21-3 overall record and made the biggest jump in the national poll.

RMC rose 12 spots from the previous ranking of No. 23 to No. 11, tying with Bethel (Ind.) with 322 points each.  Rocky Mountain earned a pair of home victories over Montana Western on Jan. 30 and then No. 20 ranked Montana Tech on Jan. 31.  The Battlin’ Bears held on to defeat Dakota State (S.D.) 60-58 on Feb. 7 and Bellevue (Neb.) 73-69 on Feb. 8.

Rocky Mountain plays their final home regular season games this weekend versus MSU-Northern and Providence (Mont.) and closes out at Mayville State (N.D.) and at Valley City State (N.D.) next weekend.

Montana Tech fell out of the NAIA’s Top 25 poll, listing in the receiving votes section with 44 points.  The Orediggers went 2-2 record since the previous national poll, falling to Carroll (Mont.) and Rocky Mountain on the road.

MT followed up with a pair of home wins over Dickinson State (N.D.) and Bismarck State (N.D.) last weekend to improve their overall record to 18-6 and 12-6 record in the league.  Montana Tech continues their home stand this weekend versus Dakota State and Bellevue before heading on the road for their final regular season games at MSU-Northern and Providence next weekend.

MSU-Northern became the sixth Frontier Conference team to appear on the NAIA’s Top 25/receiving votes, receiving two points in current edition.  The Lights are currently on a five-game winning streak, a streak that started on Jan. 20 with a win over Providence, followed by victories over Dickinson State, Bismarck State, Mayville State, and Valley City State.

MSU-N is 16-8 overall record and 11-7 record in the Frontier Conference, winning six times in the last seven games.  The Lights face Rocky Mountain and Carroll on the road this weekend and close out their regular season at home versus Montana Tech and Montana Western.

The seventh and final edition of the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll is set for Feb. 25.
