Six Frontier Conference teams in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The second NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 poll showed some movement across the board.  The Frontier Conference now landed six teams listed in the NAIA’s Top 25 national poll, including two teams listed in the receiving votes (RV) section.

Dakota State (S.D.) returned to No. 4 ranking, edging No. 5 Marian (Ind.) by one point.  The Trojans collected 468 points to the poll with an overall record of 7-1 and 3-0 record in the Frontier Conference play.  The Trojans’ only setback came in a hard-fought 86-82 lost to No. 1 ranked Dordt (Iowa) at the Sanford Sports Complex at the Pentagon.

Dakota State bounced back with four straight wins, including dominant performances over Bellevue (Neb.) (105-57) and Northwestern (Iowa) (94-67).  The team boasts strong offensive showings, scoring 100 points against Bethel (Kan.) and 98 points against Providence (Mont.).

Rocky Mountain (Mont.) climbed two spots from No. 17 to No. 15 with an overall record of 3-1 and tallied 259 points in the national poll.  The Battlin’ Bears won the first two games of the season, including their Frontier Conference season opener 67-56 home victory over Carroll (Mont.).  After suffering their first league setback at Bismarck State (N.D.) 93-88, RMC defeated Dickinson State (N.D.) 77-56 to go 2-1 record in the league play.

Carroll (Mont.) fell two spots from No. 14 to No. 16 with 249 points.  The Fighting Saints fell to NCAA Division II MSU-Billings 48-45 in the season opener and earned their 79-58 home opener victory over (RV) Wayland Baptist (Texas).  Carroll dropped their first Frontier Conference contest to their traveling partner RMC, the Saints earned a weekend sweep at Dickinson State (N.D.) 66-40 and at Bismarck State (N.D.) 66-63 to improve their overall record to 3-2 and 2-1 Frontier Conference record.

Montana Tech won the first five games of the season before falling to Valley City State (N.D.) 61-58 in the Frontier Conference contest in North Dakota.  The Orediggers fell four spots from No. 21 to No. 25 (82 points) with an overall record of 5-1 and 1-1 record in the league.  Montana Tech will start their season-high six-game home stand Friday versus Montana Western.

MSU-Northern received seven points, while Providence (Mont.) earned six points in the receiving votes section.  The Skylights are 3-2 overall record and 2-1 record in the league.  The Argos hold an overall record of 4-2 and 1-2 Frontier Conference record.

The third edition of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll is scheduled for Dec. 17.
