HELENA, Mont. – The battle of two Frontier Conference East Division football teams – No. 5 ranked Montana Tech and Rocky Mountain (Mont.) which both are 3-0 record in division play – will be featured on the SWX Local Sports live broadcast Saturday afternoon at Herb Klindt Field in Billings, Mont. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. (Mountain Time).
Despite dropping the first four games against ranked and receiving votes teams, the Battlin’ Bears reeled off three straight Frontier Conference East Division victories. Rocky Mountain (3-4 overall record) defeated MSU-Northern on the road on Oct. 25 by the score of 35-21.
RMC is third in the Frontier East Division with 367.6 offensive yards per game and 24.4 points per game. Darius Haskin ranks second in the NAIA with 123.0 receiving yards per game. He leads the East Division with 10 touchdown receptions.
Montana Tech (8-0 overall record) returned to action on Nov. 1, shutting down Mayville State (N.D.) 51-0 in Butte. The Orediggers average 39.4 points per game, which is tied for 15
th best scoring offense in the NAIA. MT also leads the Frontier East Division in scoring defense, allowing 16.9 points per game.
Wykece Johnson leads the Frontier East Division with 78.9 rushing yards per game, as well as nine rushing touchdowns for MT. Levi Torgerson is second in the East Division with 91.3 receiving yards per game and seven touchdown catches. Anthony Okes is second in the FC East with 5.5 quarterback sacks.
Montana Tech won the last two meetings with Rocky Mountain, both meetings held in Butte. The Orediggers won lats year’s meeting by the score of 34-23 in the non-conference meeting earlier this season. The last time both teams met in Billings, Mont., was on Oct. 21, 2023, where the Battlin’ Bears held on to defeat the Orediggers 28-21.
MT holds a 24-9 record in the last 33 meetings with RMC.
