HELENA, Mont. – The SWX Local Sports of Montana live football broadcast is scheduled to return to Alumni Coliseum for the third time this season Saturday, featuring the Frontier Conference East Division opener between newcomer Dakota State (S.D.) and No. 5 ranked Montana Tech. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. (Central Time)/1 p.m. (Mountain Time) in Butte, Mont., on the campus of Montana Tech.
The Orediggers, who moved one spot from No. 6 to No. 5 in the latest NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, are undefeated this season with a 5-0 record after holding off No. 25 ranked College of Idaho 27-24 at home on Sept. 27. MT is 3-0 record at home this season.
Despite falling short in the season opener to rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) by two points, Dakota State reeled off three consecutive victories to lift their overall record to 3-1. The Trojans closed their non-conference slate with an 11-10 homecoming thriller over (RV) Southern Oregon at Brian Kern Family Stadium in Madison, S.D., on Sept. 27. Dakota State held their two Frontier Conference West teams scoreless in the second half in the previous two games.
Saturday’s contest marks the first all-time series meeting between both teams.
Montana Tech leads the Frontier East Division in scoring per game with an average of 33.2, followed by Dakota State second with 26.5 points per game. The Trojans are second in the East Division in scoring defense with 15.0 points allowed per game, while the Orediggers are fourth with 21.4 points allowed per game. DaSU leads the Frontier East Division in yards allowed per game with 220.3 yards per game.
