SIOUX CITY, Iowa – More awards are coming in for the Dakota State University Trojan women's basketball team. Tabor Teel and Bria Wasmund were named to the NAIA All-Tournament Second Team, announced by the NAIA after Tuesday's national championship game won by Marian (Ind.) over Dordt (Iowa) at the Tyson Events Center.
Dakota State played five games in the NAIA national tournament, reaching the national semifinals for the second time in the past four seasons. The Trojans fell to Dordt (Iowa) in the national semifinals, ending their historic season with school program record 30 wins. DSU also earned their sixth straight conference regular season title, including the inaugural year in the Frontier Conference this season with a 19-3 record.
DSU breezed through their four-team pod at DSU Fieldhouse, defeating Grand View (Iowa) 102-51 and Bethel (Kan.) 104-74. The Trojans returned to Sioux City for the final site, defeating Indiana Wesleyan and (RV) Georgetown (Ky.) to win the Naismith quadrant.
Teel averaged 14.8 points per game in the national tournament for the Trojans. She was 29-of-65 from the field (44.6 percent), including 6-of-15 from the 3-point line. She averaged 10.8 rebounds (54 total rebounds) and nearly 4.0 blocks per game (19 total blocks) in the national tournament.
Teel posted three double-doubles in the NAIA national tournament, accumulating a total of 21 double-doubles this season for Dakota State. She highlighted the Trojans with six blocked shots in each game versus Georgetown and Dordt.
Wasmund averaged 11.2 points (56 total points) and 2.8 assists (22 total assists) per game for the Trojans in five NAIA national tournament games. She scored season-high 21 points in DSU's win over Indiana Wesleyan in the Round of 16.
Wasmund dished out at least three assists in five national tournament games, including six assists versus Bethel. She racked up 12 assists (4.0 assists per game) in the final three games at the Tyson Events Center.
