HELENA, Mont. – Dakota State (S.D.) is the top seed for the upcoming 2026 Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Postseason Tournament next weekend. The four-day postseason tournament starts with quarterfinal contests on Friday and Saturday, followed by semifinal games on Sunday, March 1, and championship game on Monday, March 2.
Montana Tech is the host of the basketball postseason tournament, which will be held at Butte Civic Center in conjunction with the women’s basketball postseason conference tournament.
The Trojans captured the Frontier Conference’s first automatic bid to the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Tournament with an overall record of 24-4 and 19-3 record in the league.
Montana Tech secured the No. 2 seed as they enter the postseason with an overall record of 22-4 and 18-4 record in the conference.
There are a pair of ties in the conference standings, with Rocky Mountain (Mont.) (20-8 overall record) and Carroll (Mont.) (19-9 overall record) with 17-5 conference record.
MSU-Northern has locked up the No. 5 seed with an overall record of 16-11 and 12-10 record in the league.
The second tie in the standings were Montana Western (13-13 overall record) and Providence (Mont.) (15-13 overall record) for sixth place with 11-11 conference record. The Bulldogs own the tiebreaker after sweeping the season series with the Argos.
Bismarck State (N.D.) is No. 8 seed in the conference tournament with an overall record of 9-18 and 9-13 record in the conference.
Valley City State (N.D.) (10-16, 7-15 Frontier), Bellevue (Neb.) (10-17, 6-16 Frontier), Dickinson State (N.D.) (7-19, 5-17 Frontier), and Mayville State (N.D.) (1-26, 0-22 Frontier) ended their season Saturday.
Carroll is the No. 3 seed, followed by Rocky Mountain at No. 4 seed. Both teams split their season series, with each winning on their home court. Both teams went 2-0 record versus MSU-Northern. RMC and CC went combined 3-1 record with UMW and UP.
The tiebreaker goes to Carroll after going 2-0 record versus Bismarck State, while the Rocky Mountain went 1-1 record versus BSC.
The quarterfinals round begins on Friday evening with No. 1 seed Dakota State taking No. 8 seed Bismarck State at 1 p.m. (Central Time)/12 p.m. (Mountain Time), followed by No. 2 seed Montana Tech facing No. 7 Providence at 3:30 p.m. (CT)/2:30 p.m. (MT).
The action continues Saturday with other two quarterfinal round games with No. 4 seed Rocky Mountain taking on No. 5 seed MSU-Northern at 1 p.m. (CT)/12 p.m. (MT), followed by No. 3 seed Carroll facing No. 6 seed Montana Western at 3:30 p.m. (CT)/2:30 p.m. (MT).
The semifinal round games are scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT)/12 p.m. (MT) and 3:30 p.m. (CT)/2:30 p.m. (MT).
The quarterfinals and quarterfinals contests will be live stream via on Frontier Conference YouTube page. The championship game is set for Monday at 6 p.m. (CT)/5 p.m. (MT), which will be on a live broadcast through SWX Local Sports.
The second berth will be awarded to the Frontier Conference Tournament Champion. In the event the regular season champion is the tournament champion, then the second berth will be awarded to the regular season runner up.
The NAIA Women’s Basketball Selection Show will be held on Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. (Central Time)/6 p.m. (Mountain Time) via NAIA’s YouTube page.
The winners of the NAIA’s opening round from March 13-14 will advance to the final site at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa on March 19-24.
