ACU Hires Drew Maddox As Head Football Coach

Glendale, Ariz.- Arizona Christian University is excited to announce the hiring of Drew Maddox as their third Head Football Coach in program history.

"Coach Maddox is an energetic, positive leader, a proven winner in the NAIA, and is dedicated to the spiritual and academic growth of students and to the concept that coaching is ministry," said ACU President Len Munsil. "We are excited to welcome him, his wife and his kids to Arizona and to the Firestorm Family."

Coach Maddox in 2020 took over a Louisiana Christian University program that had been without a winning season for five years, going 23-16 including a playoff appearance. After a COVID-shortened 2-3 season, his team improved each year - from 4-7 in his first full season, to 7-4 and then 9-2 with a Sooner Athletic Conference championship and an NAIA playoff appearance.

"This is an exciting moment for Firestorm Football as Coach Maddox steps into leadership," said Athletic Director Dr. Peter Dryer. "He is a committed follower of Christ, leads with integrity, and has a proven ability to win in the NAIA. We are confident in the energy and vision he brings to Firestorm Football's future."

Coach Maddox was the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in both 2022 and 2023, for his final two of three full seasons in the conference.

After moving to the D1 ranks as defensive line coach at Southeast Missouri State University in 2024, he determined to return to small college football and spent one year at a start-up Christian college before being hired at ACU.

Coach Maddox is a U.S Army veteran, serving as a Sergeant Team Leader from 2006-2011, including two tours in Iraq as a cavalry scout.  Coach will be making the transition to Arizona with his wife Caitlyn, daughter Alli, and son Gabriel.
