Rocky Women’s Basketball Cruises to a 74-56 Victory Over College of Idaho

DILLON, Mont. -- Junior Morgan Baird set a new career high mark with 24 points as No. 15 Rocky Mountain topped College of Idaho 74-56 Friday afternoon.

Baird began hot, scoring eight of Rocky's 12 first quarter points on 2-2 shooting from the floor and 4-4 shooting from the free throw line as Rocky tied with the Yotes 12-12 going into the second quarter.

The Battlin' Bears opened up the second quarter on a 7-0 run, taking a lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.  The Rocky defense was a major factor in their run, forcing six turnovers for College of Idaho in the second quarter to give the Battlin' Bears a 31-23 lead going into halftime.

After only attempting one three pointer all season in 2022-23, Morgan Baird opened up the second half with a splash from behind the three point line following a Gracee Lekvold steal. Baird would add seven more points in the quarter on 3-3 shooting from the field. Baird wasn't the only Battlin' Bear to get in on the fun, as Rocky shot 4-6 from three point land in the third quarter, as Gracee Lekvold, Angie Cavanaugh, and Kacy Horton all added threes of their own as Rocky extended their lead to 20 with 1:26 remaining in the third quarter. The Yotes finished the quarter on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 55-42 entering the fourth quarter.

The Rocky women wouldn't waiver however, as they shot almost 60% as a team in the fourth quarter on their way to an 18 point victory.

The Battlin' Bears finished the game shooting 49.1% (28-57) from the field and 33% (5-15) from three point range, while being excellent from the free throw line, finishing 13-14.

Along with Morgan Baird's career high 24 points on 7-10 shooting, she also added three blocks and six rebounds, while going a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe. Dominique Stephens added a double double, shooting 7-11 from the field for 17 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Ky Oliver (Buell) was the third Battlin' Bear in double figures, scoring 11. Gracee Lekvold added five points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals in the win.
