HELENA, Mont. – This week’s Erck Hotels Football Players of the Week are Graedyn Buell (Offense) and John Aragon (Defense) from Rocky Mountain and Montana Western’s John Mears (Special Teams). This is the second weekly honor this season for Mears and the first for Buell and Aragon.
In just his second start, Buell tallied 400 total yards in Rocky’s 28-21 upset win over No. 16 Montana Tech. He finished with 265 yards and three touchdowns in the air, as well as 135 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The rushing total is the most by a Rocky player in a game this season.
Aragon was key to slowing the Tech offense with two sacks, three tackles-for-loss, and a forced fumble in the Battlin' Bears win. He also provided pressure on the quarterback on Tech’s final fourth down try to secure the Rocky win at home.
Mears was solid for the Bulldogs in their 34-30 win at Arizona Christian. He connected on both of his field goal attempts, including one from 50 yards which is the longest in the conference and one of seven makes from 50-plus in the NAIA this season. Mears also converted his four PAT chances for his first 10 point game of the season.
